I have been doing this agility stuff for a year, but never got to go to an actual competition until this weekend! I had a two day trial for NADAC in Lawrence, KS. I had to do 10 runs and the first one I was a little over excited and ran really fast, but then I ran out of the ring to meet some new friends. Apparently this is a big deal to the humans there cause they kept yelling "loose dog"... I looked around but I didn't see any loose dogs, but they were sure they saw one. Anyway, I guess I got eliminated from that round cause you are not supposed to leave the ring. Lots of rules in agility. But then I did really good on the rest of the runs and I got 6 Qs - which means I did it well, and I won 3 first place ribbons and 3 second place ones. Plus I got a big ribbon because I got my first novice agility title! The people beside us told my Mom that you usually don't get a title your first time out so she was really proud of me. And I got ice cream afterwards again.
Not that I haven't been working all winter. As a matter of fact I had lots of training this winter and worked really hard, but Mom and Dad say I now need to get back into "competition shape" - whatever that is. All I know is that I get a little less food in my bowl which I am not too pleased about.
The first of the year saw the official re-launch of the Kansas City Disc Dogs, that my family helped to do, so that is cool that now I have a club to be a part of. My folks have T-shirts and everything! My first frisbee competition of the year was on April 17th - and my Dad couldn't throw very well cause he has a rotator cuff injury so he claims.... But.... my Mom threw it really far and I went and caught it and we won a 3rd place medal in the women's long distance so that was pretty cool. Then on May 2nd it was back to Lawrence, KS for a Skyhoundz local championship. This event was my first ever last year and I won so I was trying to defend my title. Fortunately my Dad threw better and I won first place again and got a cool plaque. Best part was I got to see all my buddies and got to get ice cream from the drive through window afterwards. |
